  1. Windows 3.1/95/NT QTVRXtra 1.0 ReadMe

  3. The QTVRXtra is a Lingo Xtra for Director 5.0 or greater.   
  4. It allows Lingo level control over Quicktime VR movies to 
  5. be placed into Director titles.  
  6.  
  7. --> Which files are needed for the Xtra?
  8.  
  9. The QTVR Xtra comes as two files:  1) 16-bit for 
  10. Windows 3.x users (QTVRW.X16), and 2) 32-bit for
  11. Windows 95/NT users (QTVRW32.X32).  There are also updated 
  12. VR Components files that come with the Xtra:  1) 16-bit for
  13. Windows 3.x users (QTVRW.QTC), and 2) 32-bit for
  14. Windows 95/NT users (QTVRW32.QTC).

  16. --> INSTALL:  Where do I need to put the files?
  17.  
  18. There are 2 parts to the Windows Xtras - 1) The Xtra itself and 
  19. 2) The updated VR Components file.
  20.  
  21. 1) The Xtras are Qtvrw.x16 (the 16-bit Xtra for 16-bit Director)
  22. and Qtvrw32.x32 (the 32-bit Xtra for 32-bit Director).  If you
  23. are running Director for Windows 3.x, you would place the file
  24. Qtvrw.x16 inside the Xtras folder of Director.  If you are 
  25. running Director for Windows 95/NT, you would place the file
  26. Qtvrw32.x32 inside the Xtras folder of Director.

  28. Keep in mind that if you are running a Projector, a folder 
  29. called "Xtras" with the QTVR Xtra inside of it must be placed
  30. in the same folder as the Projector file for any VR content
  31. within that Projector to work.

  33. 2) The Windows Xtras also come with a new release of the 
  34. VR Components file that needs to be installed.
  35.  
  36. If you are using 16-bit Director, place the QTVRW.QTC file in
  37. to the Windows¥System folder.  If you are using 32-bit
  38. Director, place the file QTVRW32.QTC into the Windows¥System
  39. folder for Windows 95, or into the WinNT¥System32 folder for
  40. Windows NT.

  42. --> Where do I find a list of all the Lingo calls for the 
  43. QTVR Xtra and maybe a sample Director title with those calls?
  44.  
  45. An Acrobat PDF file called "VRXtrAPI.pdf" contains all the Lingo
  46. calls for the QTVR Xtra.  A sample Director title called
  47. "Testbed.dir" contains examples of how to display QuicktimeVR
  48. content inside a Director title.  These can both be obtained
  49. from the following web site:  quicktimevr.apple.com.

  56. *** Known Issues ***
  57.  
  58. 1.  The Xtra is a Lingo level Xtra for Director.  This means 
  59. that Director really has no idea that a VR movie is present and
  60. playing on top of the stage.  This is important, because any
  61. commands that cause redraws or repaints of the stage (such as
  62. updateStage) will completely wipe the VR movie (it is after all
  63. being painted on top of the stage).  Knowing this, you must be 
  64. careful that any commands you issue that repaint the stage
  65. must be followed up with a QTVRUpdate command to repaint the VR
  66. movie as well.

  68. 2.  The QTVRXtra Lingo call "UpdateMode" is not supported on the
  69. PC.  By default, the UpdateMode used on the PC is 
  70. 'DirectToScreen'.
